Elizabethan law is enforced by the Constabulary body in the town. As far as law and punishment are concerned, it is commonplace to resort to coercive methods when confronting a criminal. Has a thief stolen from the town merchant? Put him up in the Dunke chair until he confesses!
The Lord Mayor and his Constables must keep the town safe and orderly for all citizens. In a land where unruly denizens run rampant, it is up to these councilmen to bring justice where it is due.
The Law of the Land:
- Mayors and governing bodies are appointed by the Nobility
- No law could be passed without approval and consent from the Queen
- Government followed a class system, with the Queen at the top, the nobility as second rank, and the gentry as third
